Google search by image – few facts
Google Image Search was first launched in 2001. It was called Google Image Search. Image search is possible because search engine robots find pictures and images placed on web pages and categorize them by sending their thumbnails to their servers. This means that after uploading a photo in the search results, we see a thumbnail of the photo – the same as the photo we uploaded or similar to it and the links to the pages where the photos were placed. With Google Image Search, you can search for images in .jpg, .gif, .png, and .tiff format. Image search supports web browsers: Chrome 5, Internet Explorer 9, Safari 5, Firefox 4 and later versions. It is worth remembering that the image we want to search for is also indexed by the search engine in its resources, making the search more accurate.
How does it work?
Most of us when looking for an interesting photo, in the graphic tab, enter a keyword and search for the photo that interests them. However, Google Image Search has a more interesting option – search by image, that is, instead of words, we use a specific image. And you can do it in three ways.
How to find information by an image? It all depends if we are searching for an image saved on our laptop or a one found on the Web.
First thing we need to do is to click the camera icon – an option of image selection will appear, here you can drag and drop the picture or upload it in traditional way.
f we want to find a picture found on the Web we need to copy the images’ URL. The easiest way of doing it is by hovering with the cursor on the picture, right click on it, you will see a list of options from which you need to select “copy image URL”. The URL then needs to be pasted into the search box.
If Google crawled the same graphic or similar (different size, similar theme) then we will see thumbnails in the search results.
